Arach Jane Acknowledges The Importance Of Change Agent Training

Arach Jane was trained as a Change Agent in 1999, she has worked hard and tirelessly with the voluntary spirit that Uganda Change Agent Association (UCAA) advocates for among its members. This spirit has helped her to be more committed to doing the work of Change Agent without being facilitated by UCAA.

She served as chairperson for Aruu north Branch from 1999-2000, Secretary from 2000-2001, and as Treasurer from 2001-2002 of the same branch. From 2000-2001 she was also vice chairperson District coordinating committee Pader, treasurer from 2001-2002 and secretary from 2002-2003.

She was entrusted as a female delegate for Pader to the UCAA Delegate Assemblies in 2004 and 2006. She also facilitated the Change Agent Training course which was organised by UCAA in pader in 2007. And currently she is employed by Kitgum Diocese as a community based facilitator, all her groups and district have benefited from the program.

As a change agent and uplifting the methodology of self-reliance, Arach Jane is currently working with 60 groups who are involved in savings and loan association and she has since trained them on savings and credit. In 2014, these groups reported that they saved 20,000,000/= Uganda shillings. On the agricultural scene, she trained 12 groups and managed to link them to CARE international and six out of the 12 groups got five ox-plough and 20 oxen from Care International. In 2014 this groups reported that they managed to produce 150 bags of maize for sale.

Jane has been able to establish a drug shop where she earns betweenUsh.200, 000= to Ush.350, 000= as profit per month. This money has helped her in paying school fees for her three children in the secondary schools. In addition, she earns fromthe sale of greens and dry silver fish (mukene). She also started goat keeping project and this has helped to supplement her income. Jane confesses that she has been able to achieve all the above because of the change agent training.

Jane has spearheaded fostering of relationship between local government and change agents in the whole of Pader district. She attends meetings on behalf of change agents and it’s therefore on this ground that Jane can rightfully be said to be a true spokesperson for Pader district change agent associations. Jane has not only stopped there, she makes personal visits to newly formed groups and trained them on a voluntary basis. Therefore, she is letting her light shine for other Change agents and everybody else to see.

Indeed, Jane has put all the skills she acquired from the change agent training to very good use and all these shows that she is proud to be a change agent, a sacrifice which is not easy to make. Jane is considered as a determined change agent and shall always be significant for UCAA, because of her contribution in spreading of the UCAA methodology in the area of self-reliance that has helped many people to live a sustainable life.
