Success Story: Kyokunda Clemensia-a change Agent
Clemensia is a change agent of 59 years, residing in Bugaya 1; Rubirizi District
Kyokunda Clemensia’s journey is a remarkable testament to the power of empowerment, knowledge, and determination. Before joining the Bugaya Tweyombeye Group as a Change Agent trainee in 2000–2001, Clemensia was a housewife living a peasantry life, dependent on small-scale farming. She lived in a modest house and often found herself borrowing clothes from neighbors to attend community functions. Opportunities felt limited, and her voice was not yet recognized in public spaces.
Her breakthrough came through the UCAA’s Change Agent Training (CAT) in 2001, which opened the door to a series of transformative learning opportunities. She later received trainings in: Fundraising Training (2005), Training of Trainers – TOT (2007) and Management and Accounting Training
These trainings equipped Clemensia with confidence, leadership skills, and the capacity to mobilize and positively influence her community. With her growing self-esteem and competence, she transitioned from a quiet rural woman to a respected public figure according to her leadership journey below.
• 2001–2006: Joined local politics at Parish level
• 2006–2010: Elected Vice Chairperson, Bushenyi Woman Councilor
• 2010–2016: Elected Female District Councilor representing two sub-counties
• 2016–2020: Served as District Councilor and Secretary for Health, Community-Based Services, and Child Welfare; also served on Boards of Governors for two schools
Beyond UCAA, Clemensia’s growth was further strengthened by partnerships and capacity-building engagements with CARE International, Nature Uganda, Cadre Course, ICOBI, and BUCOBATA.
Today, Clemensia proudly reflects on how far she has come. She has built her own house and raised six children now all graduates and employed: A Police Officer, Two Accountants, Businessman and Two Teachers
“I am grateful to UCAA, my mentor, God, and all organizations that built my capacity. They shaped me into the leader and woman I am today.”
