Ngorok Domenic – FMNR Champion and Sustainable Living Advocate

Ngorok Domenic, an elder from Cholichol Village in Napak district, is a proud beneficiary of UCAA’s Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) project. Through this initiative, coupled with additional training on building efficient energy-saving stoves, Ngorok has transformed both his farm and household practices.

During a recent follow-up, he shared how these interventions have empowered him with practical skills: “I have learned how to prune and maintain my trees on my own. I can now identify branches for building my hut and collect firewood in a way that my wife and children no longer need to walk long distances. The shade from the trees protects my crops from harsh heat, conserves soil moisture, and acts as a windbreak during heavy winds.”

Ngorok has also applied intercropping techniques in his garden, growing bananas, cassava, and green grams, which his family harvests regularly. While he focuses on tree maintenance, his wife and children actively tend the crops, creating a productive and collaborative household environment.

Additionally, Ngorok received training on efficient energy-saving stoves. He chose to build the stove inside his kitchen, ensuring he and his family can cook comfortably even during rain. The stove uses less firewood, reducing household expenses, and produces less smoke, improving indoor air quality and reducing health risks.

Through these innovations, Ngorok has not only increased his household’s productivity and resilience but also set an example for sustainable farming and energy-efficient living in his community. “UCAA has continued to empower me with knowledge and skills that make life easier and more sustainable,” he said proudly.
