The different categories of people interacted with, have appreciated and acknowledged the continued support provided by UCAA through the following success stories shared:
Adeun Paul is a 37 year old husband to Nakong Esther aged 35 years, they have 3 boys and 1 girl, 2 of the children aged (5-9) are studying in Lobok community primary school in primary 1 and primary 3 respectively.
The couple had some family differences that came as a result of polygamous issues in September 2022 narrated by Nakong Esther, her husband got another home from a distant village in kokipurat, from this he distanced himself and stopped supporting the family, from frustration Nakong approached the GBV officer and got counseling, from which she started working hard to provide for the children.
She could work for cash or food as a means of payment in other people’s gardens within Lobok village, where she would get paid with a basin of cassava or potatoes that she took home to feed the children and that way she was able to provide for them.
Since she was already in a savings group of Lobok Community saving group, she got a startup loan of 300,000/= UG shillings which she used to buy some sorghum and cassava and started local beverage selling business, with time she accumulated her capital to UG shillings 700,000 and completely paid off her loan. She again got another loan of UG shillings 300,000/=, with the profits from her IGA she topped up her money and bought some piece of land at UG shillings 1,000.000. Nakong built one hut where she started staying with her 3 children, and after 2 years in 2024 her husband came back with an apology after realizing that she had bought land, even built and doing well with the children.
Nakong informed UCAA about the return of the husband, she was then counseled to forgive him because the children needed both parents for better growth and support, the UCAA GBV followed up and encouraged them to stay peacefully for the children and their welfare, and a plus was that they had started working together.
Nakong explained that since then, he has changed, they are now staying together peacefully, and they share ideas about the family’s welfare. She added that she went ahead to convince him to join the saving group and they are both saving in the same group of Lobok community group.
