UCAA MEMBERSHIP

Uganda Change Agent Association strength originates from her countrywide membership and the grassroots structures developed over the years.

We are excited to introduce a new batches of 300 young vibrant trained change agents from different regions of the country in districts of Oyam, Amuria, Kagadi, Ntungamo, Kumi, Ngora and Mpigi, these graduated in the years of 2023 to 2025

UCAA currently has a membership of over 4,300 trained Change Agents (Development Workers) who have organized themselves into 230 branches throughout Uganda. These members of UCAA (Change Agents) are working voluntarily with over 6,000 self-help development groups (SHDGs) with a membership of over 70,000 rural women, youth and men.

 Categories of Membership

(a)  Membership in the association is voluntary.

(b)  There are  three categories of membership:

o Full Members: Under this category, membership is limited to men and women who have successfully completed an 8-week change agent training programme recognized by the Association. 

o Currently amended to include men and women who have successfully completed 30 days residential or non-residential Change Agent Training Programme recognized by the Association. 

o Associate Members: Under this category, membership is limited to men and women who have successfully completed a 28- day community leaders training in self-reliant participatory development methodologies recognised by the Association.

o Working Partners: This category is open to interested individuals and institutions in Uganda or elsewhere.

c) Organizational structure

The UCAA structure has the following organs:

The National Delegates Assembly (NDA) – formerly known as the (Annual General Assembly), is the supreme decision making body that meets annually.  The Assembly elects members of the Board of Directors.  Each district sends in two representatives to NDA (Man and woman). 

The Board of Directors – Implements decisions made by the NDA, it is a Policy making body, and supervises the work of the Secretariat and meets four times a year. It is composed of 9 regional representatives of which currently 4 are male and 5 are female.

The District Change Agent Associations (DCAAs) – consist of all branches and their members within a district. The District Coordinating Committee is a representative of branches and meets quarterly.   

Branches – each branch comprises of at least 5 full members (change agents). The branches have executive committees and meets monthly.

Self-help groups – peasant farmers who have come together for a common purpose - working together with the change agents.
